Microfilm Jackets The Microfilm Shop manufactured jackets have been subjected to and passed the rigorous Photographic Activity Test (PAT) test - ANSI IT9.16 *. The Photographic Activity Tests are used to ensure no adverse reaction takes place between the component parts of the microfilm jacket and the silver halide film enclosed therein.

Spool & Boxes A single 16mm x 100ft roll film (silver camera film) holds between 2,000 to 20,000 documents. The films can be stored in simple microfilm boxes although various types of sophisticated self-loading cartridges are also available. A 16mm roll film system is the most variable and versatile microfilm system available. Roll film is used for retaining documents in chronological, alphabetical or numerical order. Alternatively, totally random filming may be indexed by bar coding and linking to a CAR (Computer Aided Retrieval) system. Microfilm cartridges are used to contain a roll of 16mm microfilm once the documents have been filmed onto it.

Storage Systems A jacket or microfiche (fiche) can hold up to 300 images of important documents. This is a huge amount of information for one A6 size sheet of plastic. It therefore makes sense to ensure that this information is stored in an efficient and secure manner.
